Add Hope’s fundraising success stems from voluntary R2 micro-donations supplemented by KFC contributions. Since 2009, this no-pressure approach has raised more than R1.2 billion, with the unchanged R2 amount ensuring accessibility while achieving 47% growth in 2024. Staff have no targets, customers retain choice, and every donation directly funds a nutritious meal for a hungry child.
These donations are transferred to the trust by KFC. Customers’ donations are voluntary. Add Hope is grateful for every R2 but staff are under instructions never to pressurise someone to donate. Every customer has the right to say no but we are passionate about giving them the opportunity to donate.
Every voluntary R2 donation, with KFC’s contribution added, buys a meal for a hungry or malnourished child. Add Hope proves that small change can have a really big impact.
KFC does not receive any tax benefit for R2 donations or online donations from the public. It exercises its right to claim a tax deduction for the business’s donation.

This approach is vigorously and regularly communicated to franchisees and employees. KFC chases hope, not targets, and the reason donations are requested is to ensure people know they are being asked for only R2.
The donation amount has not increased since Add Hope was launched in 2009. It has been kept low to encourage donations. In 2024, donations were 47% higher than in 2023, demonstrating their continued effectiveness.
Add Hope receives ad hoc funding from private and corporate donations and fundraising events.
